Food Poisoning Disaster

A friend of mine recently won a large sum in compensation after filing a medical negligence claim because the she suffered from a severe case of food poisoning while she was in hospital.

Apparently, she had been in hospital for just 3 days before being given the food. She began to vomit hours later and suffered from severe stomach pains.

Hospital staff held her in hospital for another 2 days before sending her home. Yet at home she continued to vomit continuously and called a help-line. She said that the helpline she called advised her not to eat anything for a few hours and wait to see how it goes.

So after 4 hours of not eating, she was still vomiting and called the helpline again where she was told the specialist will call her back shortly.

It wasn’t until another 2 and a half hours later that she was called back. However, by then she had collapsed. Luckily her sister was in the room with her and called for an ambulance who rushed her to hospital. It was later stated that she had suffered a severe case of food poisoning.

She contacted injury lawyers a few weeks later out of anger through a number of occasions where medical staff had reacted negligently.

She stated: “I was in extreme pain while I was ill and on top of that I was left with food poisoning and was still sent home. I was then told to see how it goes after not eating for a few hours, and after calling back, was told I would be called back, which was not until after 2 hours, but by then I had passed out. If I was treated in the hospital in the first place, i’m sure I wouldnt have been left suffering for this long.”

She said that a large number of people suffer from medical negligence everyday, and wanted to file a claim for compensation so that staff would learn from their mistakes and ensure it doesn’t happen to anyone else.
